Meet the Founders: Phil and Melodie Johnson

The story of Cafe Con Leche begins with family. Raised in New York City with deep Puerto Rican roots, Phil and Melodie brought their shared love for culture and cooking into a venture that reflects who they are.

Phil Johnson, the Executive Chef, channels the heart of his Bronx upbringing and the life lessons of his grandparents into every dish. With strong memories of coffee brewing during holidays, visits, and special moments, he chose the name "Cafe Con Leche" not just for the drink but for what it symbolizes: unity, joy, and tradition.

Melodie Johnson, co-owner and Executive Chef, grew up between Brooklyn and Connecticut, learning the essence of warmth and welcome from her Abuela Risa, famously known for serving limbers to the neighborhood. Her experience in both culinary and design is reflected in every corner of the cozy, art-filled space that houses the cafe.

Together, the couple has turned a century-old building into a cultural haven, infusing every detail with purpose—from locally sourced furnishings to a menu that carries stories from the island.
